DIGIVOL Expedition:
AM Hawk Moths - Sphingidae 1

About:
Welcome to another Australian Museum Entomology expedition! This expedition is looking at the family Sphingidae or, Hawk Moths. They are moderate to large in size and are distinguished among moths for their agile and sustained flying ability, similar enough to that of hummingbirds as to be reliably mistaken for them. Their narrow wings and streamlined abdomens are adaptations for rapid flight.

This expedition is part of the Australian Museum's Collection Enhancement Project (CEP). The CEP will result in new levels of access to the AM’s diverse collections, making digital images and meta data easily accessible to First Nations communities, scientists, researchers, students and individuals from Australia and abroad.
