About the Role: The Reptile & Spider Keeper is responsible for the day-to-day care, husbandry, and welfare of a diverse collection of Australian and exotic reptiles and spiders. This role plays a critical part in maintaining high standards of animal welfare, presentation, and safety across the collection.Key responsibilities include daily health observations, accurate record-keeping, food preparation and feeding, enclosure cleaning, and habitat maintenance. The role also involves assisting with the design, construction, and repair of enclosures to ensure they meet both animal welfare and operational requirements.An essential component of this position is engaging with visitors through daily animal presentations, keeper talks, and educational experiences, particularly for school groups and families. The successful applicant will be comfortable working in a public-facing environment, delivering clear and engaging messages about reptiles, spiders, conservation, and safety.This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, a commitment to animal welfare, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced zoological environment.

Essential Criteria: 
• Current driver’s license C class
• Own vehicle in good working order
• Physically fit with an ability to carry out manual handling activities, enthusiastic and hardworking
• Full covid vaccination including 3 approved Australian vaccinations
• Must speak fluent English
• Must be able to work a 38-hour week, including availability during public holidays and school holiday periods

Desirable Criteria:
• Previous animal keeping experience
• Certificate II or III in Captive Animal Care
