Question
NZ Black Tunnelweb Spider (Porrhothele antipodiana)
Found these at my mates place in the Wairarapa which is at the southern end of the North Island under corrugated iron laying in long grass . They are a harmless relative to the Australian Funnel Web Spider and can live up to 6 years .
Photo 1 - This is a standard coloured speciman about half grown .
Photo 2 - This one has recently moulted and it's carapace hasn't coloured back up yet .
Photos 3 & 4 - These are parts of
typical webs which are just laid out flat on the ground , these spiders seldom use burrows , just huge sheets of web covering the ground with a tunnel within where the spider lives.
